Experience: FLM 382: Writing for the TV /Web Series
I discovered my love for screenwriting my senior year of college, taking my first screenwriting course.
Structured like a workshop at times and a writer’s room at others, my peers and I wrote and refined our scripts while regularly providing feedback on each other’s works. We engaged in various editing sessions focused on a single aspect of a script, from format to character development to plot. The class culminated in the completion of our screenplays and the provision of coverage on every student’s script.
It was through this course that I learned to synthesize the key elements of a script. What I found most rewarding was highlighting what made my peers’ work unique or the relevance of the messages embedded in their teleplays. I found the perfect intersection of my skills in communication and my love for reading, writing, film, and television in writing coverage.
